In June 2009 we purchased two colonies of bees and the plan is to breed from these over the next couple of years so that we can produce our own honey for sale. We have opted to keep our colonies in the less familiar Dartington Hives which we (and the kids) have painted different colours to make the Apiary more colourful! In 2010 we will start to rear our own Queens and aim to increase our colonies to six to eight (subject to the weather and how quickly we learn the techniques!) This would then put us in a position to produce reasonable quantities of honey in 2011, produce nucleus colonies for sale and further increase our number of hives for 2012.
If anyone sees a swarm of bees in the Chalfonts /South Bucks / Chilterns area, please do phone us immediately (07973 seven three seven one zero seven) so that we can come and collect them before they decide to make a home in someone's house!
